A Time To Fall: A Collective Performance

A Time to Fall, a collective performance, has been developed by Amy Sharrocks in London, UK with a variety of people for whom falling has different resonances… able-bodied people, school children, over 60s ….etc. As Sharrocks writes, “This is a group performance which looks at how people move together.  The piece deals with the importance of care and the kindness of strangers.  It is about the shock that replays the event and the need to tell the story of each fall as a way of dissipating its power.   We look at ways of walking - and of veering off - and how experience, pain and ageing processes are accommodated into our bodies. The result is a measured, strange kind of dance with a gentleness that reflects an act of kindness and careful watching, capturing a moment of care.”

In gentle solidarity with A Time to Fall (London), WIAprojects (Toronto) invited all and sundry to come and fall together at Trinity Bellwoods Park (near Queen St West & Strachan) on July 17th at 6 pm. The 6 pm time was to coincide with the London event. We gathered to "rehearse" at 5.30 pm.  The event was videotaped, documented, shown online and shared with all of you and the UK group.

She is interested in cultural understandings of health and disability and knowledge that stems from lived experience. She has recently extended that practice into documenting the lived experience of others through different modes of storytelling for awareness and change. Her work often takes form as multi-media and assemblage. This installation for the Window Box Gallery @1313 is part of a master’s research project (OCAD University) investigating the lived experience of acquired brain injury. Exercising Urbanism October - December 2022

Exercising Urbanism is a collaboration in urban exploration with local emerging artists and designers Ella Hough and Maya Freeman. Freeman and Hough will lead three drawing workshops in the city (at set locations in Parkdale, Cabbagetown, and Chinatown) that aim to help us re-examine the city critically, imaginatively, and playfully. The drawings that develop from the workshops will make up the installation of the Window Box Gallery. With each subsequent workshop, drawings will become layered in the window box as the experiences of the city’s secret corners and alleyways are reimagined as hubs for creative expression and informal gathering.  Participation in the workshops is free (pre-registration required) and materials will be supplied.
